The story revolves around a group of tribals who live in a small village in a forest in Odisha in 1930. There were many problems faced by tribals such as upper caste and lower caste system, wild animals ruining their harvest, and most importantly the greedy moneylenders and the police informers. During this time, a newly posted British Administrator arrives at the village. The British Administrator (played by Robert Wright) is a Passionate hunter and he befriends a native tribal Ghinua (played by Mithun Chakraborty) who is an exceptional archer. The movie was below average at the box office. However, People loved the acting of Mithun Chakraborty and Mamta Shankar, despite it being their first movie. The plot of the movie was so unique and realistic, showing the suffering of the villagers and their exploitation by Indian landlords back in 1920. But the critics did not like the idea of mixing stories with history.
